The Art Basel X UBS Art Market Report is the most widely watched study of the global art market. The 2026 report was just released. What were the key takeaways?

The market is stabilising post-pandemic boom. However the recovery is uneven.

Auction sales are stronger at the very top of the market, where major works have attracted attention.

The middle market has slowed, but that can create opportunity for buyers.

Auction sales have increased, but as we know they represent only a small part of the overall market with much of the most important activity continuing to take place privately through galleries and advisors.

What does this mean for collectors?

Periods like this can be productive moments to build collections thoughtfully, focusing less on momentum and more on conviction.

Our main takeaway? A reminder that the best collections are rarely built in moments of market frenzy, but over time.
