I went back to see this exhibition three times.

I went back to see this exhibition three times.
Each time I found it uncomfortable in a way that feels entirely intentional.
It feels like overhearing a conversation between women that usual happens in private, now placed openly in front of us. There is something quite exposing in that. At moments it feels strange that men are in the room and at the same time essential that they are there.
Emin has taken something deeply personal and made it public without softening it.
The choice of blue walls is striking. Associated with traditional museum spaces like the National Gallery, they place Emin’s work firmly within the lineage and challenge the idea that contemporary art belongs on white walls.
It is an important exhibition. One that I think everyone should see.
Have you been yet? Have you gone back?
