Everyone knows Kendall Jenner as a supermodel and one of the most photographed women alive. Fewer people know she is a serious art collector with a very clear thread running through what she buys.

Most of her collection circles the subject she has lived inside since childhood. Fame, image and the way women are looked at. She grew up on camera, in the most documented family in the world, and the art she has chosen turns that experience into the thing on her walls.

Barbara Kruger, whose text works pull apart power, advertising and the media. Richard Prince, who built a career re-photographing other people’s images and asking who owns them. Raymond Pettibon. Sterling Ruby. A Tracey Emin neon hangs over her bed, confessional, in Emin’s own handwriting.

The most pointed piece is one most people would walk past. In her dining room hangs a Lauren Greenfield photograph from Generation Wealth, a series examining society’s obsession with money, status and celebrity. Greenfield also photographed Kim and Kourtney back in the nineties, long before the fame. So Kendall lives with an artwork that interrogates the very world that made her.

There is also a James Turrell glass sculpture that glows. One of the most significant living artists working with light, the kind museums build rooms around.

A collection about being seen, assembled by one of the most photographed women alive. As a collector Kendall Jenner has chosen to buy work that speaks to her own life and is living with it.
