There are so many art galleries, art consultancies, art dealers and art advisory firms across the country - each with its own style, focus and personality. Some galleries specialise in Contemporary art, others in Modern British or focus only on investment. Some have a single space, tucked-away yet appear at every major art fair; others span cities and towns with multiple showrooms. A few feel more like museums than places to buy art - where staff might seem distant and you're left wondering, Is any of this even for sale? (Spoiler: it is.)
If you’re new to collecting, it’s not always obvious which gallery is the right fit for you. Who will welcome your questions? Who will take the time to listen? Who can you trust? Before you have even decided what art you want to buy? What art you even like?
So why is Watson Evans Art different? I started Watson Evans Art to create the kind of gallery and dealership I wish had existed when I first began my journey into the art world. We are built for the new collector.
How?
Experience: With over 15 years in the art world, I’ve worked across leading auction houses, galleries, (of different types), and advisory firms. This broad perspective has ensured that I know all the different facets of the art world.
Reputation: My clients know me for being a listener first, for the personal touch of not selling them what is available but to find them what’s right. Every piece is offered at a fair market value and selected with the same care I’d use for my own collection.
Ownership: Unlike many galleries or art consultancies, we’re a dealership - we own every artwork we sell. That means every piece has been personally chosen, condition-checked, authenticated and assessed for long-term collectibility. As many pieces that we buy, we reject. If I wouldn’t hang it on my own wall, it doesn’t make the cut.
Accessibility: We focus on Prints and Multiples from the 20th Century to the Present Day. These are high-quality, collectible works that don’t require a six-figure budget. You’ll find Tracey Emins that are less than £5,000 and Andy Warhols for no more than £10,000. We meet you where you are at and grow with you.
Inherent Value: By primarily focusing on works from the Secondary Market, you can be assured of the inherent value in each piece you collect from us. Whilst we cannot ever promise you guaranteed returns on an artwork, (and no art dealer ever should), we can promise you a proven track record and inherent value in each piece that will hold its value and with strong potential to grow.
Consultancy: No two humans are the same, therefore no two art collections should be the same. If you’re looking for works beyond what we currently offer I’ll help source them with the same meticulous eye I apply to our own inventory. Together, we’ll find what suits your taste, your space and your budget.
Relationships First: Above all, my priority is to build a relationship with you - not just to sell to you. Of course I am an art dealership, I want to sell the art we have for sale but that is not our guiding light.
Whether you're just starting out or looking to grow your collection with confidence, our approach is grounded in experience, integrity and accessibility. At Watson Evans Art, we’re here to grow with you - to help you build a collection that you can enjoy, talk about with your friends and fellow art collectors and be proud of.
