Yayoi Kusama is one of the most influential contemporary artists. Renowned for her immersive installations, polka dots and infinity mirror rooms she is perhaps most well known for her distinctive pumpkin motifs, which appear across her work.
Her obsession with pumpkins dates back to her childhood in Japan, where she found comfort and inspiration in their organic forms and patterns. She once described the pumpkin as a symbol of warmth, growth and stability.
