With these works Emin pursued a more confident and mature approach to printmaking, moving beyond the scratchy monoprint style she had often used into fluid, fuller lines that reflect both emotional and corporeal honesty.
In 'I Think of You' she depicts a reclining nude figure rendered with expressive, flowing lines that are characteristic of her distinctive visual language, where the body becomes a site of introspection and emotional resonance. The work’s title and imagery together evoke a sense of contemplation and emotional attachment, the act of thinking of someone who occupies the artist’s interior world, memory and affect, while simultaneously acknowledging the vulnerability and solitude inherent in such reflection. Although Emin’s figures sometimes lack precise facial features, this abstraction allows the piece to function both as a deeply personal expression and as a more universal meditation on love, memory and the passage of time.
As with many of Emin’s prints, 'I Think of You' blends autobiography with broader questions about intimacy, aging and human connection, capturing the emotional complexity of remembering and longing with simple but powerful visual economy.
