Benjamin Spiers, born in Plymouth in 1972, trained at Falmouth University before completing his studies at Goldsmiths, London. His paintings combine technical precision with a wide-ranging command of styles—drawing on surrealism, abstraction, and cubism—to conjure dreamlike scenes filled with both unease and wonder. Figures in his works often appear uncannily comfortable within their distorted forms: elongated necks, contorted limbs, and piercing eyes invite viewers into strange yet captivating realms. In 2006, Spiers received the prestigious John Moores Painting Prize from the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool. His work has since been shown internationally, including an exhibition at the chi K11 Art Museum in Shanghai in 2024, and he is currently engaged in a residency with the Zuecca Project in Venice. His paintings are also represented in notable collections such as Museu Inimá de Paula in Brazil and the G+ Art Museum in Wuyi City, China.
