Damien Hirst’s 'Andromeda' is a richly layered facsimile print from his Veil Paintings series, capturing the texture and energy of his hand-mixed, veil-like layers of paint. Hirst has described these veils as “solid yet invisible, revealing and obscuring the truth all at once.” Inspired by Pierre Bonnard’s luminous colour and the dappled brushwork of Pointillism, the series brings a sense of light and rhythm to abstraction. Created in 2018 as part of Veils (H4), "Andromeda" is painted in a serene yet joyful palette; thickly applied blues, pinks, purples and whites cascade into deeper blues, reds, oranges and yellows. Named after a botanical garden in Barbados, the work feels both natural and exuberant, an explosion of colour that recalls the playful delight of a sweetshop. The short, thick brushstrokes build a sense of depth and movement, drawing the viewer into an almost meditative space. This edition captures that same vitality and texture, preserving the immersive beauty and expressive power of Hirst’s original painting.
