This piece was created to complement the deluxe edition of Paper Pools, which was published by Thames & Hudson in 1980. The edition consisted of 1,000 signed and numbered copies, along with 100 artist’s proofs. This is a rare unsigned proof, apart from the main edition, with strong direct provenance from Tyler Graphics in New York. The piece bears Tyler’s blindstamp in the lower-right corner. Of all of Hockney’s works, his pool series is arguably the most iconic. As illustrated by his infamous painting Splash which defines an entire culture and city.
